A weekend in the Honduran jungle..

A good friend of mine, Janelle, and I booked a weekend trip away to the jungles of Pico Bonita National Park for a weekend full of activities.

A weekend of adventures with this chica..

Hopping on the direct flight to La Ceiba was simple and then a taxi trip through the jungle to Omega Eco Lodge where we had a little cabin literally built over a running stream of fresh water.  There was also an outdoor shower which was refreshingly delightful- Back to nature for us.

Our cabin over the creek

First up was a hike around the property which was amazing and the views were well worth it.  Have to admit we did get lost at one stage but managed to find our way back before dark, luckily..!  Back at the lodge was a nice chilled evening of card games and delicious food.

As we got lost..

Our first activity the next day was horse riding through the Cangrejal River valley..  Now this was cool.  We rode through villages and the jungle to a stunning little rock pool from the Cangrejal Creek, where we had a picnic lunch and a dip in the refreshing waters.

After a bit of exploring and swimming in the rock pools, we dried off for our ride back – such a delightful way to spend the morning.

Riding to the rock pools..

Back at the Lodge we had a chilled arvo reading our books and playing cards.  Then it was time for some sunset yoga.

We had spotted a nice yoga platform overlooking the jungle so what a better way to end the day?!  As Janelle is an incredible yoga instructor, she talked us through an amazing practice.  Delightful..!

Our private yoga studio in the trees

Another delicious dinner and back to our cabin where we got to watch the lightning strikes of a passing storm.

Our next day consisted of more adventures.  We were abseiling first up starting from Las Cascadas Lodge which was great fun with Ryan.  The abseiling started with a 35-minute hike to first waterfall at 75feet.  We continued down a further 4-5 waterfalls and jumping into pools of water – fun!

Abseiling!

Back at our lodge we feasted on a yummy fresh lunch and got our things ready for another big hike to the bigger, El Bejuco Falls.

This was a much longer hike which started by crossing a suspended bridge over the Rio Cangrejal and through the jungle.  We saw a couple of snakes but managed to avoid stepping on them, luckily.  Once we arrived to the waterfalls, we were the only ones there so properly chilled out admiring the view.  Bliss.

Hiking around

Back at the lodge and we were wrecked – a bit of yoga and then another yummy dinner.

Our last morning was a super slow one so we could enjoy the last moments of our amazing weekend.  We had another great, fresh, brekky overlooking the pool and the jungle and then it was time for our taxi ride to the airport back to the island – a perfect weekend..
